Site Water Planner Certification (CSWP)

The IWMS is proud to sponsor a new certification for those individuals interested in establishing credentials for developing site water management plans for Golf and Landscape applications.

The Center for Turf Landscape and Irrigation Technology, Cal Poly Pomona will administer the CSWP exams.

Candidate Requirements for the Certified Site Water Planner Program

Selective Requirements for CSWP

Candidate must accumulate 3 points from the following:

  1. 1 Point* - 4 years experience in the golf, landscape, water conservation or irrigation fields
  2. 1 Point - 3 years work experience plus an associates degree in golf, landscape, water conservation or irrigation fields
  3. 1 Point - 2 years work experience plus a bachelor's degree in golf, landscape, water conservation or irrigation fields
  4. 1 Point - At least one of the following current certifications: PGM, Water Conservation Practitioner, CSFM, CLT, CLIA, CIC, CID or CGCS.
  5. 1 Point - 6 months participation on a committee or board of a trade association, community group or other association, society or forum that supports water conservation.
  6. 2 Points* - 10 years work experience in golf, landscape, water conservation or irrigation fields

* Items 1 and 6 cannot be used together


Obligatory requirements:

  1. Pass a 75 question test with 70% or better score.
  2. Within 120 days of the test date submit a Site Water Management Plan for an actual site according to CSWP standards. The plan must be accompanied by copies of the historical water use data used to develop the plan and a signed letter from the property owner or owner's representative that they have reviewed the plan.
  3. Submit required applications and pay all applicable fees. The current exam fee is $150.00
  4. Maintain CEUs. The current CEU requirement is that you must submit a site water management plan, meeting the same requirements as for the exam, once every two years after becoming certified.
